Below is an overview of the planned route (subject to change). On May 1-3 this site will also provide updates as to the location of the walkers as they trek across our area.

MAY 1 SCHEDULE


Lawrence -- Tonganoxie -- Basehor -- Kansas City, KS

1. Runners depart from Haskell Indian Nations University Thursday morning

2. Runners arrival at The Legends at Village West. Meanwhile, walkers begin late morning from 134th & State and will walk east to Kensington Park at 29th & State, arriving there around 3pm.

3. Overnight at Gaea Retreat, McLouth, KS.


NEW PLANS - UPDATED APRIL 30
Begining in Lawrence, runners will head north on Massachusetts, then continue north on US-59. North of Lawrence they turn east on US-24/40 and continue in a northeasterly direction. At Tonganoxie they may divert through town (dotted red on the map) for a rest break. They will continue east on US-24/40. At Basehor they turn north to Parallel Parkway to avoid a construction zone, then head east to the Legends at Village West shopping center. Here they will be shuttled to their camp site.

Meanwhile a walking group will be shuttled to 134th & State Avenue in western Kansas City, KS and begin walking east in the late morning. They will follow State Avenue east to Kensington Park at 29th & State, arriving there around 3:00pm. Here they will be shuttled to their camp site.
MAY 2 SCHEDULE


Kansas City, KS -- Kansas City, MO -- Independence

1. Walking segment kickoff - Kensington Park, 29th & State, KCK. About 8:00am. UPDATE: LAST NIGHT'S STORM DEVASTATED THE CAMP. ALL EVENTS ARE DELAYED - POSITION ESTIMATES TO THE RIGHT HAVE BEEN UPDATED TO REFLECT THESE DELAYS. THE WALKERS DEPARTED THE CITY MARKET AT 12:14PM.

2. Observance and sendoff from Kansas at Huron Indian Cemetery in downtown KCK. About 8:30am.

3. Arrival at the City Market in downtown Kansas City for a welcoming to Missouri and a proclamation by Mayor Funkhouser. 10:00am.

4. Part of the group will shuttle to the Hopewell archaeological site at Line Creek Park for a luncheon and discussion. 11:30am to 1:00pm.

5. Picnic lunch at Liberty Memorial / Penn Valley Park. 11:15am.

6. Welcome reception with the mayor and blessing at the Osage Trace and Tree of Peace, River & Lexington, Independence, MO. 5:00pm.

The day starts with a run from The Legends to Kensington Park in KCK: on Parallel Parkway, then south on Meadowlark, then east on State. The walking segment begins at Kensington Park and follows Minnesota Avenue east to the Huron Cemetery. From here they will take the Riverfront Heritage Trail to the West Bottoms, entering Missouri on Woodswether Rd. On to the City Market to meet the Mayor, then south on Walnut south throuugh downtown towards Liberty Memorial. After lunch the walkers head east on 31st Street until it becomes Hwy 40, then follow 40 to Blue Ridge Cutoff. They will then go north on Blue Ridge, northeast on Westport, east on 23rd, and finally north on Crysler to their destination.
LATEST WALKER LOCATION UPDATE:

The walkers are not walking in the Kansas City area today.

Note: Some portions of the route are done by runners, this tool only tracks the position of the walkers.


MAY 3 SCHEDULE


Kansas City, MO -- Grain Valley

1. Departure from Pleasant Heights Community of Christ Church

2. Arrival at the Indian Ministries Council of America for overnight stay and pow-wow.

The walkers will follow US Hwy 40 East from Kansas City to Grain Valley. At Grain Valley the walkers will turn south on Main Street, walking through town, to their destination.
